Course Description

The A+ Core Hardware course will prepare students for A+ certification by reviewing key fundamental concepts in computer hardware. Students will learn the skills necessary to competently install, build, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot and repair personal computer compatible hardware including troubleshooting basic network and internet connectivity, dial-up, DSL, and cable. Students will also learn about computer memory, bus, peripherals, and wireless technologies. The knowledge acquired in this five-day course will help individuals looking to achieve the skills required for entry-level IT professional or PC technician.

Content

• Identify computer system modules including: motherboard, firmware, processor/CPU, memory, storage device, adapter cards, and ports

• Identify the basic procedures for adding and removing field-replaceable modules, and the appropriate sequence for installation

• Identify typical IRQs, DMAs and I/O addresses, and procedures for altering these settings during installation and system configuration

• Identify the purpose and uses of various ports

• Identify the proper procedures for installing and configuring common peripheral devices such as PDA’s, Printers, and Infrared Devices

• Recognize common problems associated with motherboards, firmware, memory, etc, and identify steps to identify the cause and troubleshoot

• Understand basic networking principals including network operations

• Understand preventative maintenance process
