Project Fundamentals and Lab
In-classroom Instruction (12
hours)
In this class students will overview the basics
of project management including theory and core
methodology used by professional project
managers and project team members. This course
focuses on the conceptual underpinnings and
project management theory and best practices
that project managers must know in order to
successfully manage projects and implement
project management software application
effectively. Students will learn how to use
project management techniques to plan, organize,
control, document, and close out their projects
successfully while minimizing risk. Students
will identify and explore project management
concepts including: project phases, project
criteria, risk management, critical path, budget
management, communication, and project
close-out. Students will also create a project
plan in lab session using concepts covered
during the class.
MS Project Level 1 and Lab
In-classroom Instruction (12
hours)
In this course students will learn how to use
Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 as a
tool to assist them in managing projects. The
topics in this course include reviewing the
skills necessary to create and modify a project
plan file. Students will create a project plan
file containing tasks, organize these tasks in a
work breakdown structure containing task
relationships, create and assign resources, and
finalize the project in order to implement the
project plan. Students will also practice and
apply the skills learned during class in a
hands-on lab session to create an example
project plan in MS Project.
Excel Introduction/Intermediate and Lab
In-classroom Instruction (16
hours)
In this course students will learn how to use an
Excel spreadsheet to prepare budgets, financial
projections, and other reports arranged in rows
and column. Students will improve formula
writing skills, and formula usage. This class
will provide students with the tools needed to
produce accurate, complex worksheets. This class
will also teach students how to audit and
protect worksheets and cells, and to write
logical function statements. Students will also
practice and apply the skills learned during
class in a hands-on lab session.
MS Project Level 2 and Lab
In-classroom Instruction (12
hours)
In this course students will build upon the
learning foundation covered in Project Level 1.
Students will improve their MS Project skills by
working with a project plan once it has entered
the project implementation phase. Students will
exchange project plan data with other
applications, update project plans, create
custom reports, reuse project plan information,
and collaborate on project plans with others.
Students will also practice and apply the skills
learned during class in a hands-on lab session.
Effective Meetings
In-classroom Instruction (8
hours)
This course teaches students about planning,
participating in, and concluding successful
meetings. Students learn how to establish the
purpose and agenda of a meeting, facilitate
participants' progress toward the meeting goals,
improve their leadership abilities, facilitate
situation analysis, brainstorming, and decision
making, foster creative thinking, manage
conflict among meeting participants. Course
activities also cover building a positive
climate during a meeting and following best
practices of verbal and nonverbal communication.
PMP Certification Prep,
Test Prep and Lab
In-classroom Instruction (40
hours)
The CAPM and the PMP certifications are based on
the same curriculum, but very on the intensity
of questions, and a requirement of actual
project time for the PMP. This course is based
on the tenets outlined in A Guide to the Project
Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide®) –
Third Edition. This industry recognized book has
become the standard for CAPM and PMP education
and therefore denotes knowledge and
understanding of globally-recognized project
management processes and terminology. In this
course, test prep and lab students will focus on
the project management techniques developed for
the PMBOK Guide including budget, resource, and
team management, project phases, implementation,
and project completion.
Visio Level 1 and Lab
In-classroom Instruction (16
hours)
This class teaches the basic functions and
features of Microsoft Office Visio Professional
2003. Students will learn how to work with
stencils, objects, flowcharts, process maps, and
master shapes. Students will also learn how to
connect shapes, enter and format text and set
file properties. Background pages, detail pages,
and Print Preview are also covered. Through the
use of Visio students will be able to draw
project related business and workflow maps as
well as conceptually show linked tasks and
dependencies. Students will also practice and
apply the skills learned during a hands-on lab.
Microsoft Access and Labs
In-classroom Instruction (32
hours)
The Microsoft Access track of classes will teach
students the fundamental concepts of relational
database theory and use of the Microsoft Access
tools. Microsoft Access is a relational
cornerstone of the Microsoft Office suite that
is used to create and manage database
information. This track of classes and
labs will teach the students the basic of Table
design and data entry, query design to extract
collected information, Form Design for ease of
data entry and Report Design for giving detailed
professional reports of the collected and
extracted information
Project Management Series
e-Learning Instruction (24
hours)
This e-Learning series provides three complete
courses of instruction that help with skills
needed to succeed at project management. Courses
include Project Management Professional, Project
Management, and Project 2003. These courses will
help students understand and utilize tools and
skills to stay on track and to manage resources
for an overall improvement in personal and team
productivity.
